e-Government directives require both local and central public organisations to provide electronic access to all government services. A major challenge is to integrate the new electronic channels of communication with traditional channels such as paper and telephone. In all areas it is vital for every public body to offer people the services they want, when they want them and with minimum cost and bureaucracy. At the same time they must ensure they combat fraudulent activities and handle enquiries quickly and sympathetically for each communication channel.
