BancTec Debuts Enhanced Performance Features for the DocuScan 9000
17.05.2005 — Dallas
BancTec, a global provider of enterprise content management solutions, introduced today additional capabilities for the DocuScan 9000. This ultra high-speed mixed document scanner digitizes and processes as many as 95,000 documents in an 8-hour shift, at a rate of 260 per minute. The enhanced DocuScan 9000 features several value added hardware and software functions, expanding its document processing capabilities for mid to large-scale organizations. AIIM On Demand attendees are invited to see demonstrations of the DocuScan 9000 in BancTec’s booth (No.1024), May 17-19, 2005 in Philadelphia.
"The enhanced DocuScan 9000 provides improved capabilities, greater cost benefits and higher productivity when utilized in difficult document application environments such as mortgage loan origination or electronic mailrooms," said Mark Fairchild, Senior Vice President, BancTec Global Products and Operations. "When combined with BancTec’s eFIRST product suite for capture, process and archive, the DocuScan 9000 provides one of the most advanced enterprise content management solutions available today."
The new DocuScan 9000 features include:
-
Enhanced double feed detection
the addition of state-of-the-art ultrasonic technology to BancTec’s patent-pending double feed detectors ensures that the widest range of documents, from checks or payment stubs to large envelopes, are scanned with minimum errors. This combination of technologies, also patent-pending, enhances early detection of double feeds in the scanning/sorting process, resulting in rapid resolution and higher sustained throughputs.
-
New small item pocket module available
the new module contains three sorting pockets designed to hold small items, such as checks or payment coupons, with a much smaller space requirement. The pre-existing universal pocket accommodates document sizes up to 11.9 inches by 17 inches. The DocuScan 9000 can now be configured with a combination of universal and small item sorting pockets to facilitate unique document processing requirements.
New software enhancements offer the following features:
Point and click color dropout and sort by color
enhancements to DocuScan’s IntelliSCAN™ software application allow operators to easily select and dropout the background from a scanned image, thereby improving the accuracy of the scanning process. In addition, IntelliSCAN can now sort based on the detection of a pre-defined color.
Intelligent scanning of mixed batch documents
patent-pending feature offers greater operational efficiency via the automatic selection of alternate IntelliSCAN job profiles based on the detection of specific barcodes.
Enhanced barcode triggering
IntelliSCAN supports three levels of barcode triggering, enhancing the capability to organize scanned output.
ActiveX® Controls
allows other application software to directly control the DocuScan 9000.
"A majority of BancTec European sales relate to document scanning. We anticipate our product sales in this area to grow dramatically here in the U.S. as more organizations in financial services, utilities, telecommunications and retail implement enterprise content management solutions," added Fairchild.
BancTec first introduced the DocuScan 9000 at AIIM On Demand 2004. The enhanced version builds upon standard DocuScan 9000 capabilities such as the ability to automatically process co-mingled checks, envelopes, tri-fold letters and legal-sized pages in a single batch. It also eliminates the need to manually pre-sort documents by size and type, or to hand-feed difficult documents. The DocuScan 9000 also offers a 500-page automatic document feeder module; document skew detection and correction; a manual feed module; integrated capture and transport control software; and a 24-bit color image capture camera with selectable, simultaneous output of any combination of color, grayscale and bitonal images.
